A New Sheriff in Town

Looks like Cook County Sheriff Mike Sheahan will not be seeking re-election in 2006. This relatively late-breaking, but long-rumored, development throws this seat up for grabs. A leading frontrunner has to be my friend and former colleague Tom Dart, who is presently working in that office after a good run in the House and a bid for Treasurer in 2002.

Other names may include Jim Burns. I'm sure that there are countless others who will test the waters of this situation that is in flux.

This seems to be the buzz of the day... I think a lot of the Committeeman are upset by this development as they feel the wool has been pulled over their heads. I don't know whether or not Dart is good or bad, qualified or unqualified, but clearly this was a move meant to undermine the Democratic process and keep many 19th ward dems with jobs.

What's wrong with that and besides the Cook County slating process is anything but a "democratic process".
I kinda like the sound of "Sheriff Fritchey".

Bill, thanks but not even in the realm of possibilities.

I thought Fritchey was clean, now it turns out he is related to Banks. This sucks. I'm moving out of Chicago.

You people are friggin incredible. You want to attack Fritchey based on who is wife is related to? Why not take a look at his record and service over the last TEN years that he has been in office. And you wonder why so many good people won't run for office.

Fritchey isn't "good people". He is arrogant for no reason, annoys people and uses political connections for personal gain. I'll be happy when he's gone.

How exactly do you think he is arrogant? Take a look at what he has accomplished and tell me how your Rep stacks up. And you might want to think independently rather than just parrot accusations made by pissed off neighbors. Trust me, if Fritchey had done anything improper, the big boys would have exposed him since he is far from a team player. After ten years, he has a great record and the good government people not only like him, he is one of their go to guys time and time again. The fact is he is smart and works incredibly hard. If that makes him confident, he deserves it. He far from puts it in anybody's face. He just doesn't back down either. That's exactly why I support him. If you'll be happy when he's gone, I guess you'll be thrilled to have a legislature of lemmings. But hey, if that's what works for you, great. Most of us want leaders.

Your friendly tech supporter here. In case you couldn't figure it out, looks like your friend RT has decided they want to post more :) Must be bored now that leader.com is down.
